canada's prog rock/metal
Winners of the 2019 Wacken Metal Battle Canada competition, Toronto's melodic proggers The Slyde recently represented Canada at the Wacken Metal Battle international final, at Wacken Open Air in Germany.
Off the heels of their Canadian victory, The Slyde is celebrating 10 years of their melodic prog rock, showcasing highlights from their latest album "Awakening". The band (formerly known as just Slyde) dropped their ten-track album in 2018, harnessing the intricate, contrapuntal prog metal they've honed over the last decade. Described by critics as "a highly impressive, thunderously powerful, thought provoking collection of songs" and "vigourous and passionate", The Slyde carve their own path and take no prisoners.
In true prog fashion, The Slyde stays true to their mission statement with their quirky arrangements, aggressive edge, and ominous lyrics. The result is a thought provoking, high-octane brand of prog metal for fans of Rush, Dream Theater, Haken, Coheed and Cambria, and Megadeth. Driven by Nathan Da Silva’s elegant vocals and passionate guitar work, Sarah Westbrook's virtuosic keyboard skills, and the powerful rhythm section of bassman Alberto Campuzano and drummer Andrew Suarez (with long time drummer/songwriter Brendan Soares), the band grabs the attention of technically minded melodic prog rock and metal fans.
The Slyde has played 200 shows in Canada and abroad, sharing the stage with such bands as Protest The Hero, Down With Webster, Angra, Pain of Salvation, F*ck The Facts, Dana Fuchs, and Timber Timbre among others, and have made past appearances at Wacken Open Air, Ottawa Bluesfest, Canadian Music Week, IndieWeek, and Cornwall Lift-Off.

What people are saying about The Slyde's latest release, "Awakening"
"The Slyde have written a full-length rock record that is retro yet contemporary, edgy yet smooth. There are plenty of dynamics while staying high-energy and never boring or overwrought. Well-balanced and entertaining, these songs are progressive but not pretentious. Have a listen then tell your friends! "
- Progressive Music Planet
"If you’re looking for a familiar prog-rock band in the stylings of Rush, Dream Theater, Coheed and Cambria, and even a bit of Protest the Hero with a new-age twist, look no further and grab the album today ."
- Canadian Beats
"An album with an incredible energy and a vocalist that keeps up with them, The Slyde make a formidable record. This band have many highlights on Awakening, including ‘Walk With Me’ and ‘So Blind’ where the band make clear just what they can do."
- Thinking Lyrically
"Quirky yet catchy arrangements coupled with lyrics focusing on “sociopolitical and environmental issues,” The Slyde is definitely a thinking man’s rock band. Much like Geddy Lee, Nathan Da Silva’s voice is an acquired taste, however there’s no arguing when it comes to the band’s musical proficiency. Vigorous and passionate, these players shine brightly, each contributing dynamic passages as witnessed in “Walk With Me”, “Fading”, and “Divide”."
